Protection for those experiencing homelessness from extreme weather events.

In the absence of climate adapted housing for all Australians, Byabarra aims to prepare rough sleeping communities for the immediate risk of rapidly accelerating weather events.

Byabarra helps governments, services and communities strengthen their preparedness and response to extreme weather by developing practical, evidence-informed solutions that protect people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Through protocol development, community-led action, training and strategic advice, we build the knowledge, partnerships and systems needed to reduce risk, improve coordination and create more resilient communities before, during and after extreme weather events.

Byabarra then guides communities to work towards developing the more sustainable and longer term vision:

Building Extreme Weather protocols

We work with organisations, councils and communities to design practical extreme weather protocols, response plans and activation pathways that protect people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Enhancing community led responses.

We support communities to develop locally led, evidence-informed responses that strengthen resilience, build partnerships and improve support during extreme weather events.

Training & Education

We deliver practical training, workshops and resources that equip frontline workers and community organisations to confidently respond to the impacts of extreme heat, cold and other extreme weather events on people experiencing homelessness.
